The glaciers on the southern border with Italy have the advantage of height but when snow systems approach from the north west then they can be pretty exhausted by the time that they reach the Stubai and Zillertal valleys, whilst Pitztal and Kaunertal can see good deposits. It is ironic that Switzerland gives up much of its snow to the far north western section of the Austrian Alps with the Bregenzerwald region the first to receive the frigid, wet weather as it crosses the plains of southern Germany and north east Switzerland - surely the Austrians have a double reason to celebrate this snow? Sunny and more seasonal September weather over the weekend is forecast for the middle of next week along with dropping temperatures and more precipitation heading for this region again.
