Innsbruck ski region had a decent snowfall over the last 24 hours, with some 30-40cm falling in Axamer Lizum. The header image from today shows the blue skies and powder lines of Lizum, the highest skiing around Innsbruck. South of Innsbruck, the Stubai Glacier continues to open its terrain, and there is now a 50cm snow pack, whilst Sölden has 130cm. For those looking for some après ski after their turns, both Sölden and Ischgl are open, as are the Hintertux, Pitztal, and Kitzsteinhorn Glaciers. Sölden and Obergurgl have more than half of their ski terrain in use, and Ischgl / Samnaun has the biggest ski area open in the Alps.
Ski operations in France are a little behind those in Austria, with Val d’Isère and Val Thorens operating small sectors of their big ski regions. Val Thorens reports a 95cm base, with Val d’Isère an 80cm base on the glaciers.
In Switzerland, Zermatt is topping the pile with 170cm of snow on their upper slopes, closely followed by the neighbouring Saas Fee.
Over the ridge in Italy, Cervinia is open for winter and shares the largest open ski terrain in the western Alps.
Snow is forecast for mid-week, and the big ski regions, including Cortina in Italy and the Austrian Arlberg, are set to open for the winter.
