We were at the Stubai Glacier over the weekend for the start of the winter season. There is the possibility to ski year-round on the Hintertux Glacier but with ski passes running from 1st October, this generally marks the start of the ski season for many. In a country with so many amazing things to do in spring and summer, skiing from now until June takes a rather large chunk out of the year. But why not spend that time on the snow?

One stark contrast to last winter were the mountain restaurants - open again to serve calorie-laden dishes and foaming beers. I’ve never really grasped the idea of treating oneself to a feast on a mountain, having spent the previous hours in pure bliss – the moment doesn’t really justify comfort food.

6 lifts were operating on the Stubai Glacier over the weekend with several more likely to be running following the forecast mid-week snowfalls. Temperatures are expected to be frigid with 3 days of snow on the radar.
