Dec. 19, 2024
We were on a site inspection in Lech am Arlberg yesterday, and there was a noticeable hum in the air. Local business owners were hotel dinner guests, and the mountain huts had pre-season staff parties. All this before the busiest period of the winter, and a whopping storm that is currently homing on in on the Arlberg.
Opened in the early summer 2024, the Lech Congress Centre is experiencing its first winter under the towering Arlberg snow. It’s an architectural masterpiece – occupying the most hallowed turf in Austria it simply had to be. But the design and quality of finish are extraordinary. The views are similarly staggering, with the 14th-century church in one direction and Oberlech in the other.
Hotel Kristberg is presently without a roof as the 18-month redevelopment continues. Closed for the entire winter, the hotel is set to open for the 25/26 winter, offering a whole new guest experience. A bit of muscle will be required in the next few days to free the open structure of the imminent snow drifts.
The true beauty of Lech is that very little changes. The resort offers pastures between hotels in some of Europe’s most valuable real estate. It is unique, timeless and utterly charming. Christmas is set to be picture-postcard – just as soon as the roads and terraces are cleared!
