Mountain huts offer joyous moments amongst the peaks. Views, atmosphere and flavours that are enriched after a morning of exertion. But there isn’t a one-size-fits-all when it comes to huts. They can be sleepy and refined or wild party venues. Mountain huts are a unique and key component of any corporate ski trip.
Amongst the biggest brands in the Alps, La Folie Douce offers an undiluted celebration of life in the mountains. The in-house restaurants offer all the Savoyard classics, and as the plates are cleared, the music ramps up, and the tables transition to dance floors. Few places at 16:00 in the Alps can offer a comparable atmosphere as La Folie Douce, Avoriaz.
An architectural masterpiece, the Wolf Hut offers a clean, contemporary design with large windows overlooking Lech am Arlberg. Its interior is resolutely subtle so as not to distract from the scenery. Furniture has been masterfully crafted from local wood—this is a place to sit and enjoy the simple beauty of life in the mountains.
The menu is basic, just like the interior design. Customers arrive throughout the day for coffee, lunches and afternoon beers. Drag a beanbag onto the terrace or snow and watch the clouds roll by.
La Bergerie de Planpraz is located in the Brévent sector of the Chamonix ski region and offers stunning views over the Mont Blanc Massif. The Aiguille du Midi and Mont Blanc peaks are prominent on the horizon. Bathed in sunshine, the terrace is an iconic spot in the French Alps.
A view of the skies is on offer at the Col Druscie in Cortina d'Ampezzo. Whilst the Dolomites dominate the daytime views, as soon as the skies darken in peak winter, the planets of the solar system can be seen through the neighbouring astronomical society’s telescope. Astronomers are on hand to explain the planets and galaxies that exist in the heavens. The hut also opens for nighttime functions, with views from the terrace absolutely jaw-dropping.
