And whilst the weather this week is set to be very late summer-like in the Austrian Alps, the 40cm of fresh snow that fell on the Hintertux Glacier in the last week has provided some great terrain to get some very, very early season turns in. Whilst the Hintertux Glacier offers the only 365 days per year skiing in Austria, it is always a good time to be watching the webcams and the weather charts as the snow begins to fall on this more than 3.2 km high ski area. For those who know the Hintertux Glacier, the ski piste down to the Tuxer Ferner Haus is open offering a nice long run through the upper section of the glacier. Whilst the summer skiing is of limited scope on the Hintertux Glacier, the route down to the Tuxer Ferner Haus offers a genuinely good area to ski so early in the season. And for those just returning from the sun and sand of the coast, the 22km of skiing on the Hintertux Glacier should remind us all that winter and the joys of high altitude living are very much upon us.
