The skiing in the Chamonix Valley is spread across 5 main areas, with some smaller ski outposts and off-piste adding to the mix. Brévent, Flégère, Les Houches, Grands Montets and the Balme Vallorcine areas make up the skiing whilst the Aiguille du Midi accesses the iconic Vallée Blanche off-piste ski route, crossing stunning glacial terrain.
Chamonix has a well-deserved reputation for tough terrain with some of the best steep and off-piste skiing in France. Brévent, Flégère and the Grands Montets areas all offer excellent challenging terrain. The north-facing slopes of the Grands Montets area offer some superb off-piste terrain.
Brévent is the most accessible ski area from central Chamonix Mont Blanc. It offers a good mix of terrain from beginner slopes to some steeper routes from the top station. There is a ski lift which connects Brévent to Flégère for an extended ski area. Les Houches at the start of the valley offers a reasonable-sized intermediate ski area.
For the best skiers and snowboarders, the Grands Montets ski area offers the steepest terrain in the valley with some famed off-piste. For an entire off-piste adventure, the Vallée Blanche is truly iconic - one of the great ski routes in the world.

The Chamonix Valley stretches more than 20km and is made up of several villages and resorts. For most people, the vibrant centre of Chamonix Mont Blanc is the place to be. The main street is alive, year-round with people drinking, dining, shopping or strolling. There are endless restaurants, bars and shops and few resorts anywhere can match the atmosphere of the centre of Chamonix Mont Blanc.
Side streets offer small squares, whilst the raging river that cuts through the town has many attractions backing onto it. The central area of Chamonix Mont Blanc has a casino and many restaurant and bar terraces. There are numerous hotels and chalets in and around the central pedestrian area. With its entertainment and amenities, Chamonix represents one of the very best options for corporate ski trips anywhere.
Away from the centre of Chamonix Mont Blanc, the valley becomes more rural, although no less dramatic. At the northern end of the valley is Vallorcine, a pretty village close to the Swiss border, offering the first glimpse of the remarkable scenery in the Chamonix valley. Argentière is a small village that accesses the Grands Montets ski area, whilst Les Praz is another pretty village close to Chamonix Mont Blanc and accesses the Flégère ski area.
Les Houches is located at the southern end of the valley and is a medium-sized town, 8km south of Chamonix with its own ski area. There are buses and trains which connect the resorts and villages of the Chamonix valley.
Leaving the slopes of Le Brévent – the almost inescapable pull of the Folie Douce terrace ensures that place rumbles earliest of all Chamonix Mont Blanc après ski bars. Big busy and theatrical, La Folie Douce can't however match the intensity of the daily après at Chambre Neuf. No après ski session is complete without squeezing into bedroom 9.
The main pedestrianised centre of Chamonix Mont Blanc is alive throughout the winter season. Group ski trip participants will find the nightlife more than enough to keep them busy. There are bar terraces with fire baskets and live music as well as small intimate dens off the main Rue du Dr Paccard street.
A more recent addition to the Chamonix après ski scene is Mess, a contemporary restaurant neighbouring Chambre Neuf and in the heart of the après ski hub around the train station. Feast on burgers and spirits before hauling weary legs onto the tables for some après dancing next to the resident DJ.
Chamonix Unlimited is a music festival that takes place in April and offers music venues across the peaks and throughout the valley. The highlight has to be the dance platform at the Aiguille du Midi station. The cloud-piercing height and drama of the surroundings are a stunning location for the music festival with DJ’s and dancing revellers occupying the highest platform at the Aiguille du Midi.
On many levels, Chamonix Mont Blanc is about as good a meeting, seminar and conference destination, as is possible to find in France. Corporate event attendees will be able to sample superb cuisine, enjoy pleasantly quick transfers from Geneva airport and stay in excellent hotel accommodation.
